The Judicial Update

December 1, 2011

Rhode Island: The Rhode Island Supreme Court traveled to North Providence High School to hear cases on November 29, 2011. They met in the M. Beatrice Ward Auditorium to revive the old practice of "riding the circuit" when judges would travel through the state to hear arguments. That was before the invention of the automobile and modern transportation has eliminated the need for such traveling courts. However, as North Providence Mayor Charles Lombardi explained, "Just the idea of our state's Supreme Court coming to North Providence to conduct its day's business is truly historic."[1] The court heard four cases.[2]
